2013

Best to be seen.... Big, Bad and Mean

Recognition Boxes!

While Recognition is strictly a cadet event, we parents get an opportunity to send our cadet stuff!!  Send their favorite civvies:  jeans, t-shirts, etc.  Send their ipod, cds/dvds and of course whatever you would like to do in order to say Congratulations!  They'll probably be able to sleep in on Sunday, March 14th! and they'll want to make sure they have non-uniform clothes to wear that day....   Have fun putting it all together - and have it arrive right before the big weekend.
Spring Break is then just around the corner!

A very BIG THANK YOU to the more than 450 parents, families and friends who have donated to the 2013 Recognition fund raising. In 4 weeks, we have received more than $14,400 in donations and have met all of our fund raising goals! We have purchased a Challenge Coin and Patch for every 4th Class cadet (to be presented along with a congratulations card "From Your Proud Families") at the Recognition Dinner on Saturday, March 13. We have also purchased 2 class banners which will be hung in Mitchell Hall. We are making a $2013 donation to the Rando Fund and are
donating $100 to EVERY squadron's MWR Fund (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) in honor of the Class of 2013.

We continue to accept donations through our website www.afap2013.org and all donations over and above our Recognition needs will remain in our interest bearing account at Wells Fargo/Wachovia to use for our cadet's future Milestone events.
With much appreciation,

Dolly Dean and Maureen Morgan (Co-Chairs, 2013 Parent Committee)

Update regarding plans and parent fund raising for Recognition. The 2013 Parent Committee has been busy for the last several months putting together plans for this year's parent gifts for the class of 2013's Recognition. In late January, we mailed a post card to more than 1400 parents of the class of 2013 to tell them about Recognition and to invite them to visit the website (www.afap2013.org) we set up for fundraising for this, and future, Milestone events in our cadets' lives at the Academy. Through the mailing we were able to reach many parents who are not members of any of the forums sites or who do not actively participate on the forum sites. Parent donations have been amazing! As of Wednesday, February 17 we have raised more than $13,500! With this money we have purchased a Challenge Coin and Patch for every 4th Class Cadet (to be presented, along with a congratulations card, at the Recognition Dinner on March 13). We will be making a donation to the Rando Fund in the amount of $2,013. We are purchasing 2 class banners that will hang in Mitchell Hall. Finally, we will be making a wing wide donation of $100 to the Morale Fund of each squadron (we are within $150
of raising the money needed for this final gift).

If you are a 2013 parent and have not yet visited the fund
raising/information website, please take a look. Photos of the Challenge Coin and of the Patch are posted. Pictures of the banners will be posted shortly.

We will continue to accept donations and all additional funds will be
held in an interest bearing account at Wells Fargo/Wachovia for use for our cadets' future events.

Thanks for everyone's support.

Subject: 40 Day countdown to Recognition

Hello Everyone!
The 40 day countdown for Recognition has begun!   This will probably be one of the most stressful periods for your cadet since BCT, possibly more so since it includes demanding academics. Now is a good time to be as encouraging to your cadet as possible. Care packages, email, phone calls, and yes even the old snail mail.

In the meantime, visit our newly established website for parents and family members of 2013 cadets, www.afap2013.org, for all the details on how we as parents hope to recognize this achievement (including the purchase of commemorative items to be presented to the cadets during the Recognition Dinner on Saturday March 13).  Parents, your help is especially needed by February 14 to carry out Recognition plans.

If you have any questions contact Colorado co-chairs Dolly Dean Dolly (303-473-9600; dohdean@travelandsports.com) or Maureen Morgan (maureenmorgan@mindspring.com; 719-641-5305)

Thanks so much for all of your help!
