2012
I will Never Falter, and I will Not Fail
Graduation Parade and Class Crest Exchange: Tuesday, May 24th 2011
During the Graduation parade, the base takes the first class crest (2011) and moves it into a spot in the graduate class section. Then the new first class crest (2012) is placed in the center of the wall. This way, when the firsties (2011) march down to the parade field, their class crest is still hanging. During the parade, the firsties relinquish command of the wing and move over to sit with their parents in the stands. The second class cadets (2012) then take command of the Wing. When the parade is over and they march back to the Terrazzo, the squadrons march past the Class Wall and order and "eyes right." In this way, the lower classes can see "who's in charge" now.
(Technically, the Class of 2012 are not 'Firsties' until the "hats fly" on Graduation Day, May 25th 2011.)

Class RingsClass Ring Heritage
As a cadet, one should wear the ring with the class crest inward, towards your heart, showing that USAFA is your priority. Once graduated, turn the ring around and put the AF crest closer to your heart and show everyone you are a USAFA Graduate. Class Ring Tradition - the Ring Dining Out & Dance The Dining Out (in Mitch's) & Dance (in Arnold Hall) that follows are formal affairs only for cadets, their invited guests, as well as their Legacy Class. The cadets are not allowed to see or touch their rings until it has been christened in champagne. Two possible scenarios: Date takes ring from box and puts in glass for cadet to retrieve while drinking champagne; or Date drinks from glass, grasping ring in teeth for cadet to retrieve while kissing date. On October 16, 2009, the Class of 2012 (cadets only) will celebrate, with a special dinner and presentation, their exemplar selection of General Henry "Hap" Arnold along with the Legacy Class of USAFA 1972.
The 2012 class chose the someone who best "exemplifies" the type of person the class wishes to emulate. |
