Ridge Flick makes First Team in the Lowes Senior CLASS Awards! Congratulations!!
A thank you note from Joy Flick:
Dear Friends and Family,
Dave, Ridge & I would like to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to everyone who worked so hard in support of Ridge and the USAFA during the Lowe's Senior Class Award National Fan Balloting period.
According to Premier Sports, Inc., (who runs the Lowe's Award for Lowe's,) "Ridge DID WIN the fan balloting portion by a significant number, especially considering how close it had been at times."
National fan balloting comprised 1/3 of the total vote, while coaches and media votes accounted for 2/3 of the total vote. And, although the Lowe's Award is billed as an individual award, the fine print on a back page of the rules section states that "coaches and media MAY also consider how well a finalist's TEAM does during the season."
Since Ridge and the Army finalist were basically tied in the academic and leadership/character portions, but Ridge had nearly three times the total season points, (goals, assists and ground balls,) in the individual lacrosse statistics portion, and also won the national popular vote by a significant number, it would appear that the coaches and/or media gave a heavier weight to the Army finalist when they voted because his TEAM pulled-off a late season major upset which propelled Army into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in quite a few years.
Our goal all along was to see that Ridge & AF won the popular vote, and WE DID IT! We can all be proud in that huge accomplishment! The AF Lacrosse team also beat Army this season for the first time in their 17 year history of the match-up, although it took an over-time to do it! (You would expect nothing less than a gut-fight in a match-up between two Academy teams!)
Ridge ended-up being named to the Lowe's All-America First Team, and EACH OF YOU can be proud and happy in YOUR accomplishment of helping to make this happen for the AF Lacrosse Team, the AF Athletic Department, the USAFA, for Texas Lacrosse and for our new 2nd Lt., Ridge Flick... and we can never thank you enough!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
All the Best!
